Lonnie Howard, MA, LMT, Director

Lonnie is a 1982 graduate of the Scherer Institute and has her Master's degree in Psychology from Antioch University. She began working in the administration of Scherer in 1983 and has been the director since 1985. She was privileged to know and work with Dr. Jay Scherer until his death in 1990, and is committed to the legacy the Scherer Institute has created over all these years. It is a great joy for her to participate in the co-creation of the massage programs at Scherer, and she continues to delight in helping to nurture the blossoming of the students on all levels.

At the Scherer Institute Lonnie helped to develop and implement the first Oncology Massage Certification program in the country. It is now named the Peregrine Institute of Oncology Massage Training, and the classes are held at Scherer.

Lonnie is also nourished by the soul-work of poetry and has had poems published in several journals and two anthologies, including the forthcoming Return of the River: Writers, Scholars and Citizens Speak on Behalf of the Santa Fe River (Sunstone Press). She has also had articles published in Massage and Bodywork Magazine. Lonnie is an avid birder, and her love of the natural world informs her writing and is often central to her work.
